Terms of Use

These Terms of Use ("Terms") govern your use of the QR Protect app and the link-checking service behind it (together, "QR Protect"), provided by QR Protect LLC, an Ohio limited liability company ("we" or "us"). By downloading or using QR Protect, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use QR Protect.

1. What QR Protect does

QR Protect reads QR codes and, for codes that contain a web link, checks the link before you open it. Our server follows the link's redirects and checks the addresses it finds against Google Web Risk, then the app shows you a result. Codes that are not web links are shown to you but not checked.

2. Results are information, not a guarantee

A result reflects what our checks could find at the moment you scanned. No service can identify every dangerous link: new scam sites appear constantly and may not be listed anywhere yet, and some sites block or mislead automated checks. A "no threats detected" result does not mean a link is safe, and a warning does not mean a site is definitely harmful. You decide whether to open a link, and you are responsible for that decision. Use your own judgment, especially with any page that asks for passwords, payment or personal information.

3. Free use and QR Protect Pro

QR Protect is free to download. The free version includes a number of scans each day, and the safety result is always included. QR Protect Pro is an optional subscription that removes the daily scan limit and unlocks Scan Details. Current prices, and any free trial, are shown in the app before you buy.

Subscriptions are sold and billed by Apple (App Store) or Google (Google Play), not by us. They renew automatically at the end of each period unless you cancel at least 24 hours before it ends. You can manage or cancel your subscription in your Apple ID or Google Play account settings. If you cancel, Pro stays active until the end of the period you paid for. If a free trial is offered, it becomes a paid subscription at the end of the trial unless you cancel before then. Refunds are handled by Apple or Google under their own policies.

4. Acceptable use

You may use QR Protect for your own use. You agree not to:

  • use scripts, bots or other automated means to send requests to our checking service, or use the service other than through the QR Protect app
  • try to get around the daily scan limit, the subscription or any security measure
  • interfere with, overload or disrupt the service, or try to gain unauthorized access to it
  • copy, resell or reverse engineer the app or the service, except where the law allows it
  • use QR Protect for anything unlawful

We may limit or block access from any installation that breaks these rules.

5. Privacy

How QR Protect handles information is described in our Privacy Policy. In short: there is no account, and we keep no record of the links you check.

6. Third parties

Link checks use Google Web Risk. When you choose to open a link, it opens in your browser or another app, and that site's own terms and privacy practices apply. We are not responsible for third-party websites or their content.

If you downloaded QR Protect from the App Store, Apple's Licensed Application End User License Agreement also applies. Apple and Google are not responsible for QR Protect or for supporting it.

7. Changes and availability

We may update, change or stop parts of QR Protect, and the service may sometimes be unavailable (see our status page). We may update these Terms; when we do, we will change the Effective Date above. Continuing to use QR Protect after a change means you accept the updated Terms.

8. Disclaimer of warranties

QR Protect is provided "as is" and "as available." To the fullest extent the law allows, we disclaim all warranties, express or implied, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy and non-infringement. We do not promise that QR Protect will detect every harmful link, or that it will always be available or free of errors.

9. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent the law allows, QR Protect LLC will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for any loss of data, money or property, arising from your use of QR Protect or from any link you open, including a link whose result said no threats were detected. Our total liability for any claim relating to QR Protect is limited to the amount you paid for QR Protect Pro in the 12 months before the claim, or $10 if you paid nothing. Some places do not allow these limits, so some of them may not apply to you.

10. Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Ohio and applicable United States federal law, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. Any dispute will be handled in the state or federal courts located in Ohio, unless the law where you live requires otherwise.
